Why?

Due to the stigma attached to HIV, a young person born with HIV is often told to not tell anyone.

Many HIV+ teenagers haven’t even met another HIV+ teen, let alone having access to peer support.

HIV+ young people are frequently socially and geographically isolated.

The support camp offers a unique chance to be with a large group of HIV+ peers, often for the first time. Taking part in the support camp provides the opportunity to attend youth-friendly workshops about living well with HIV, to take medication openly, to be supported by trained older HIV+ mentors. Rather than hiding HIV, support camp attendees are encouraged to talk openly about it.

There are also outward bound and art/performance activities to build self-esteem and have fun. Simply put, this support camp can change the outlook of these HIV+ people and help them to realise a brighter future.
