World Aids Day 2022 – Birmingham UK
Spurred on from It’s a Sin – Garry Jones embarked on a 2-year mission to create a HIV and Aids Memorial in Birmingham City Centre to inspire future generations, ensure that those lost are never forgotten and as a symbol of hope for the future, to educate and end stigma.
Chiva & Heartlands Paediatric Clinic created a quilt with the help of some of the young people who are supported by Chiva, attend Heartlands and F2B Camp. Some sent in designs, others attended a workshop to help create the quilt. The quilt focuses upon the positives. Chiva’s young people once again showcased their positivity, vision, and skills in creating an empowering design for their quilt.

A 6-metre steel structure of 2 ribbons entwined was created as a permanent structure to be located near to the Hippodrome Theatre in Birmingham City Centre. On Worlds Aids Day there was a church service with several youth choirs, a parade of all the quilts created and the unveiling of the memorial followed by a minute’s silence. There was a fantastic turnout from the people of Birmingham along with local news crews in support of the event which was also supported by Saving Lives.
