The Association
CHIVA is an Association of professionals who are committed to providing excellence in the care of children affected by HIV and their families. Members embrace many different disciplines including nursing, GU Medicine, paediatrics, community child health, child development, psychology and social work, dieticians, pharmacists and support services.
The aims of the Association are:
- to promote issues relevant to children infected or affected by HIV, including perinatal mother-to-infant transmission of HIV
- to act as a resource for relevant national organisations such as the Department of Health, Commissioning Authorities, Royal Colleges (such as RCPCH, RCOG, RCN), Public Health Laboratory Service and BHIVA itself
- to develop and regularly update standards of care for children and families with HIV, recognising and promoting the multidisciplinary support that is required
- to encourage service providers to use the standards for audit, clinical governance and to inform local commissioning authorities
- to highlight the needs of adolescents with HIV and promote good practice for transitional care to adult services
- to help service providers achieve continuing professional development in this field
- to promote involvement in multi centre research trials both by active involvement in trial design and regular open meetings to discuss results, implement evidence based changes in practice and identify future research priorities
- to represent relevant issues to the BHIVA Executive Committee and ensure that BHIVA Spring and Autumn conferences and business meetings address these issues.
Subscription information
- The membership year runs from 1 January to 31 December
- Subscriptions paid by members joining the Association after 1 November will be regarded as being in respect of the following year
- The annual subscription is payable in advance on or before 1 January in each year and members whose subscriptions remain unpaid by 1 February following will be regarded as in arrears and, following a reminder, may cease to be a member of the Association
- Subscriptions fees for the year 2008/9 are £35 - £55.
Benefits of membership:
- Open to any health-care or allied professionals from England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland
- Members will have voting rights and can stand for election to the CHIVA Executive Committee
- Members will be kept informed of all relevant CHIVA developments, predominantly by email
- Dedicated mailing list for all announcements of CHIVA activities, including CME-accredited educational meetings and updated guidelines/agreed standards of care
- Continuing Professional Development:
- Satellite sessions annually at the BHIVA Autumn conference in London
- Multidisciplinary educational meetings every two months in London.
