Patient Experience Survey (PREMs)

Chiva and the Chiva Youth Committee have developed a 14-question Patient Reported Experience Measure (PREMs) survey to help young people share their experiences of accessing and attending HIV clinic appointments.

The survey is for anyone aged 12–25 living with HIV, including young people with perinatally acquired or horizontally acquired HIV. It focuses on the experience of accessing care and attending clinic appointments. No clinical or medical information is collected. The survey has been running since April 2025.

The PREMs survey was developed following concerns raised by the Chiva Youth Committee that young people’s experiences and feedback about accessing their care were not always being heard. The survey provides an opportunity for young people to share what is working well and to identify any barriers or difficulties they may experience in accessing and attending clinic appointments.

Understanding these experiences can help services identify opportunities for quality improvement and support engagement in care by highlighting potential barriers at an early stage.

Please see the survey questions here. Reports summarising the feedback are provided to participating clinics every six months.

We encourage all HIV clinics providing care to young people to implement the survey. Please see our Implementation Guidance for more information on how to go about this including securing permissions to use in individual settings. Chiva provides free resources and support to help clinics get started. To find out more, please contact Project Manager, Kate at [email protected].
