Highlights from the Adolescents, SRHR & HIV 2026 Workshop in Bangkok
Chiva was delighted to be part of the Adolescents, SRHR & HIV 2026 Workshop in Bangkok, connecting with young people, researchers, clinicians and organisations from across the globe. We were proud to contribute through: five posters sharing our projects and research in depth; an oral abstract presentation sharing findings from our Families’ Weekend residential, and a skills-building workshop which we co-delivered with members of Y+ Global and the Ready Programme exploring why co-production and youth leadership matter in the HIV and SRHR (Sexual and reproductive health and rights) sector.
Some of the key learnings from attending the event include:
- How HIV is impacting youth populations across Asia; 50% of new HIV acquisitions in Thailand in 2025 were among adolescents.
- Youth representatives from across the globe are calling for youth leadership and engagement at all levels of the HIV response. Critically young people need to be not just consulted, but also supported to influence policy, legislation, services and decision-making.
- How HIV clinical care can adapt and clinic models which centre community-based and community-led approaches, improve access and support engagement.
- Where we are with the treatment pipeline for prevention and treatment – long acting injectable treatments have exciting prospects on the horizon, however access to these will be critical and equity is a real concern. Questions were raised around how to ensure that those who need these treatments the most are not waiting years to access them, especially children and adolescents.
It was fantastic to be part of an event with adolescents taking centre stage, both as the focus of talks, but also and more importantly being in the room, sharing ideas, priorities and challenges we all need to be listening to.
We left Bangkok with new connections, new ideas and plenty to take forward.
