What is the CYC+ ?

The Chiva Youth Committee+ is a brand new exciting group of young people who help shape Chiva’s work. Starting in January 2027, the committee will work closely with Chiva Staff, the Trustee Board and Steering group to ensure young people are central to everything we do.

All members in the CYC+ are 18-25 years old and living with HIV, with up to 14 members being involved at any one time.

Our Purpose

The CYC+ was created to give older young people living with HIV a space to lead, advocate and shape real change. As the group of young people supported by Chiva grows up, it’s important that they have a platform to share their experiences and opinions as young adults. CYC+ ensures their voices continue to influence services, challenge stigma, and guide what support is needed next.

Working alongside the CYC,  the CYC+  purpose is to:

  1. Ensure that Chiva’s projects, campaigns and resources reflect the real experiences of young people living with HIV.
  2. To bring together young people from across the UK to represent their peers and amplify the voices of all young people living with HIV.

How the CYC+ makes an impact:

  • Reviewing Chiva’s work and influencing new developments at regular committee meetings.
  • Collaborating with partner organisations to strengthen campaigns, speak at conferences and engage with policymakers.
  • Leading and joining projects that promote better awareness and understanding of HIV.
  • Drawing attention and advocating for the specific experiences of young adults living with HIV.

What does being a member involve?

Being part of the CYC+ is a real commitment.

We’re looking for young adults who are dedicated, reliable, and genuinely want to represent Chiva.

Committee members are required to:

  • Attend residentials – Two overnight, in‑person weekends each year. Members share rooms and take part in workshops, planning sessions and other activities.
  • Join the annual Chiva Conference –  You’ll present alongside the CYC and help shape how professionals understand young people’s needs.
  • Take part in online meetings –  Bi‑monthly Zoom sessions to plan projects, discuss ideas and make decisions.
  • Get involved in extra projects –  Optional opportunities throughout the year, including UK, European or international advocacy work.

Each member typically holds their position for around two years.

Applications are now open for new members to join the CYC+. Applications close on 5th November. Successful applicants will begin joining in with CYC+ activities from December 2026.

Is travel and accommodation covered for residentials and events?

Yes, Chiva covers travel, accommodation and food costs for all residential meetings and events

Can CYC+ members take part anonymously?

Young people’s privacy is always protected. Members can choose how publicly they want to be involved, and Chiva ensures confidentiality at all times.

Do CYC+ members need experience in advocacy or public speaking?

No. Many members join with no prior experience. Chiva provides training and opportunities to build confidence and skills.
