Lifesaving lenacapavir for multi-drug resistant HIV will be made available by NHS England

Chiva is extremely pleased that the HIV medication lenacapavir will be commissioned and made available by NHS England for people with multi-drug resistant HIV. This will be a lifesaving, last resort for those that need it.

Chiva, along with other members of the Clinical Reference Group (CRG), have been lobbying for this treatment to be commissioned.

A small number of people build up resistance to all of the available HIV medications. Often these are adults with perinatally acquired HIV who have a complex medical history.

Amanda Ely, CEO at Chiva said, “This changes everything for the small number of people who literally had no treatment options left. We’re grateful to our partners across the HIV sector who pulled together as a community to bring about this change and to have worked effectively with the CRG to achieve this outcome.”
